It is clear that this online neighborhood of Shanghai Douban group is different from an offline one. Anyone can enter this group. The threshold is low. It is not as closed as an offline community, so it is more tolerant, but at the same time it will attract some spam, thus killing people's desire to participate. In this group, the emotional ties among members are weak. People all just take what they need. As what Fre said, there are too many options that you missed one, others are always waiting for you.

It could be seen as a neighborhood in a dispersed form. People share the location symbol of Shanghai, and imagine that there will be some offline interactions with different people. However, they do not have the expectation to develop long-term connections with others. Because of this, the actions in this online neighborhood may be more real than it in an offline one. People are all anonymous in the sphere, thus they could pick the contents which are really matched their interests, and have no needs to cater others.

For people in different ages, living statements, and life stages, there will be different understanding of this city group. For those who are new people for Shanghai, they do not have offline neighborhood. They rent rooms in Shanghai, their friends in Shanghai are almost new and live far away. Thus, it is also hard for them to develop one offline neighborhood. The online groups under the geographical symbol serve as the main way for them to obtain the feeling of belonging in a neighborhood. Online interactions in the group make up for the lack of offline neighbor relationships, and provide a way for them to engage in this city. It could be observed that elderly people who have already had families have low social needs for this group. From this dimension, this kind of online neighborhood could not be seen as an extension of offline neighborhood. Rather, it is also a totally new form of neighborhood.any change in place, interaction system and public symbols represents a type of neighborhood change (Schwirian, 1983). It reveals a modern lifestyle caused by the city life of young people in China to some extent. This new form of neighborhood generated through this lifestyle. It may be inevitable, and the digital particularly pave a path for it.

An unexpected finding is that the character of one city could influence the atmosphere of the online neighborhood. As Raccoon and Mi both mentioned to me that other city groups in Douban were more interesting than the Shanghai one. Chengdu group was the one they all suggested. After taking a look, I found that Cheng Du group are full of the atmosphere which people can feel offline in Chengdu. People are busy for living in Shanghai while in Chengdu, the pace of life is not as fast as Shanghai, and there are not too many outsiders in Chengdu. Thus, a warmer environment and the trivial-things-sharing of the urban life could be found in Chengdu group. People’s emotions, and social interactions with respect to the environment are an important topic for living in the City (Dunkel.A, 2015). Similarly, it is also in the online city groups. Thus, the experience of this online neighborhood could be connected with the feeling of living in one city.
